Oprah Announces Show’s End; The Apocalypse Is Near

Oprah announced Friday she is ending “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in Sept. 2011 at the conclusion of its 25th anniversary.

Sarah Palin’s visit on Monday hawking her new book Going Rogue earned Oprah her highest viewership in two years.

Next there will be the plagues.

Earth is going to implode…and before 2012!

But fear not fan-Os, she will debut a new cable channel OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network in partnership with Discovery Communications in Jan. 2011.

Oprah is reportedly going to have a visible presence on the network but has not confirmed if she will host another television show.

Besides Oprah, CBS Corp. and Walt Disney Co. have the most to loose from Oprah’s retirement according to the Los Angeles Times.

CBS has been distributing Oprah’s show to local TV stations for about 10 years and has pocketed hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue. The network also distributes Oprah’s Harpo Productions shows: “Dr. Phil” and “Rachael Ray.”

Her newest TV gem “Dr. Oz” and a possible new show for her right-hand interior designer Nate Berkus have been bequeathed to Sony.

The other people to suffer from Oprah’s departure are all the celebrities and authors who sell their wares to her loyal audience. Their bawling has commenced!

“Oprah” has been capturing about 7 million viewers an episode this fall according to Nielsen. Her follower in daytime is “Judge Judy” with about 6 million; “Dr. Phil” averages 3.7 million; “Dr. Oz” has about 3.5 million viewers.
